School HR director gets big payout in departure

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (AP) -- A severance agreement between the Burnsville school district and its human resources director paid her more than $250,000 seven months after she signed a new contract.

The severance agreement doesn't specific why Tania Chance resigned from the school district last month. But, it does say the package includes her annual salary, sick leave, vacation time pay, insurance and other benefits for the next 18 months.

Superintendent Randall Clegg says the Chance negotiated her resignation with the school board, which bought out the terms of her contract.

Chance's severance agreement also includes a provision that the district will provide two letters of recommendation for any future employer. Minnesota Association of School Administrators director Gary Amoroso tells the Star Tribune the severance pay is higher than he's seen in recent years.
