Elderly woman struck by vehicle in Winona dies

WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) -- An elderly woman hit by a car while crossing a street in Winona has died.

The woman was struck just before 8 a.m. Sunday on East Broadway Street, across from St. Martin's Lutheran Church. For nearly three hours, part of the street was barricaded off between Kansas Street and Liberty Street.

Witnesses on the scene the woman had gotten out of her vehicle and was beginning to walk across East Broadway Street, when she was struck by a eastbound vehicle.

According to the Winona Daily News, the car that hit the woman was driven by 19-year-old man from Minnesota City.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Winona Police Department and other officials were at the scene, paint marks now indicate the accidents reconstruction.

The name of the victim has not been released.
