Public's help requested in '03 Minn. hit-run death

Updated:

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (AP) -- Maple Grove police hope the ninth anniversary of a fatal hit-and-run will help them solve the case.

Forty-one-year-old Rebecca Nelson of Maple Grove was struck and killed Feb. 20, 2003, in the parking lot after dropping her son off at a hockey game at the Maple Grove Community Center.

With the anniversary of Nelson's death approaching, police are renewing their request for the public's help.

Maple Grove Police Detective Tanya Petz says there are no suspects or witnesses, and no one has been arrested or charged. Petz says authorities believe it was "an unfortunate accident," and the driver may not have realized how serious it was.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Petz. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crimestoppers.
