Dayton speech presses GOP to back jobs proposals

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Gov. Mark Dayton is using his State of the State address to push lawmakers to adopt his top proposals while reminding them that Minnesota voters will render a verdict on their performance in November.

The dual approach illustrates Dayton's key challenge: He needs Republican help to pass his agenda but he'll be looking to topple their majorities in the fall elections.

Dayton wants swift action on a borrowing plan for state public works projects and a vote on a Vikings stadium financing plan. He also has a tax-credit proposal for companies making certain hires.

According to advance text, Dayton touches on key differences between Republicans and Democrats in their visions for the state and mentions the upcoming campaign four times.
