LAKE CITY, Minn. (KTTC) -- A man has been taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound, after apparently shooting himself in the shoulder at a home at 1894 S. Highway 61 in Lake City.

Lake City Police Chief Gary Majchrzak says it began as a domestic dispute between the man and a woman a little after 2 p.m.  The police chief says the man ordered the woman to leave his house and a short time later a gun went off.  The woman thought he had shot into the floor.

Police from Lake City responded to the home at 2:16 p.m. and surrounded the area, joined by officers from Wabasha, Goodhue County, Wabasha County and the Minnesota State Patrol.

Chief Majchrzak says nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, and after talking with police, the man agreed to come out.  He was taken away by ambulance for treatment of the gunshot wound.

The latest tonight at 5 and 6 p.m. on KTTC NewsCenter.

The shooting has eerie overtones to the violence in Lake City back on December 19, 2011, when Lake City police officer Shawn Schneider was shot in the head while responding to a domestic dispute.  Schneider passed away at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester on Dec. 30.
