Table Tennis tournaments in Rochester

Posted:

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC)- A sport's state competition took place in Rochester Saturday, along with competition from the national level. That sport is table tennis.

Held at the UCR Regional Sports Complex, nearly 100 people packed the hardwood floor for some of the hardest table tennis matches in the country.

Eight divisions of competition battled for metals, some even competing to move on in national competitions. The Rochester Table Tennis Committee has applied to host state and national tournaments for the next few years, and if the committee has their way, the best that Minnesota and the country has to offer will be packing the gym for years to come.

"What you see here, this is probably the nicest venue in the country for table tennis, and people really want to come here and play," explains Mark Stanchfield from the Rochester Table Tennis Committee. "We've hosted the NCTTA (National Collegiate Table Tennis Association) National Tournament three out of the last four years because of the venue we can provide here on the campus of RCTC."

Rochester is represented by players from the Rochester Table Tennis Club and the RCTC Table Tennis Club.
