WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) -- A 9-year-old boy from Winona returned to school on Monday after a one-day suspension for imitating one of Michael Jackson's famous dance moves.
Lenny Boberg mimicked Jackson's famous groin grab during a lip-sync fundraiser at his school, St. Stanislaus.
His mother, Mindy Boberg, said the principal, Pat Bowlin, approached her and her son immediately after the performance.
"It was like during the show that he was yelling at us, while everything was still going on," Lenny said.
Principal Bowlin told them the performance constituted gross misconduct and that Lenny was suspended.
"It was pretty surprising to us and devastating to Lenny, he was in tears," Mindy said.
Lenny served a one-day suspension. Mindy is just glad he's back in school.
"There just needs to be stricter guidelines in place for what the expectations are of each act in the lip-sync. The only stipulations this year were that the lyrics be appropriate," Mindy said.
Lenny says he will continue performing Michael Jackson but will put his hand more towards his waist while performing the King of Pop in public.
The school declines to comment at this time.
However, Principal Bowlin did apologize to Lenny for how the situation was handled, although he still believes the move was inappropriate.
The Boberg's will be at the school on Feb. 13 to discuss how the suspension can be taken off Lenny's record.
