Medical examiners testify in day three of Brandrup trial

Updated:

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Jurors Friday heard from two medical examiners who autopsied the body of a Rochester man killed in an alley in October of 2008. First, prosecution called former Olmsted County Medical Examiner Dr. Eric Pfeifer to the stand. Defense called Dr. Susan Roe Friday afternoon. They both performed autopsies but they findings are different.

Dr. Roe determined the cause of death to be unknown. Dr. Pfeifer believed it to be homicide. Dr. Roe said in her testimony she felt she could not rule out the cocaine found in Mumin's body to have caused a fatal irregular rhythm of the heart. She felt it could not be proved either.

Referring frequently to the surveillance video studied, Pfeifer felt confident his death was a homicide. Noting specifically that Mumin was walking, standing upright, and then was assaulted and left motionless in the alley.

Both Pfeifer and Roe agree this is an especially difficult and unique case. Day three wrapped up just before 6:00 p.m. and will continue Monday beginning at 9:00 a.m.
