Helping the struggling community

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC)--  While our economy continues to show signs of improvement, too many people are still living on too little and don't have essential resources available to them.

That's why Project Community Connect came about.

Project Community Connect brings together just about every program offered through Olmsted county and many non-profit agencies.

Hundreds of people who just can't make ends meet came to Mayo High School for the event earlier this afternoon.

Olmsted county social worker, Mary Mewhorter says, "It's tough to see people sleeping in their cars. It's tough to see people sleeping on benches in the park. All they have is a sleeping bag and a bag and it just makes a differences to have all resources under one roof."

Attendees were able to get help with legal, medical and veterans' services, as well as resources on housing and employment.

Free haircuts and lunch were also provided.
