MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KTTC) -- A 33-year-old Albert Lea man is indicted for receiving and possessing thousands of images of child pornography.

A federal indictment unsealed Friday alleges Jesse Jeff Stewart, of Albert Lea, was in possession of about 5,700 images of child pornography as well as receiving a video containing similar material.

He's charged with one count of receipt of child porn and one count of possession of child porn.

The indictment alleges that on October 8, 2007, Stewart received a video, via a peer-to-peer file sharing program, that contained images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. On December 2, 2009, authorities executed a search warrant at Stewart's residence, where the items were allegedly found on four computers and eight CDs.

American authorities were alerted by the German federal police, after an investigation of a computer network that featured child pornography. German authorities found multiple Internet addresses in the U.S. that had downloaded illegal images.

If convicted, Stewart faces a potential maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum penalty of five years, for receipt of child pornography, and a potential maximum of 10 years in prison for possession. All sentences will be determined by a federal district court judge.
