St. Charles soldier returns home

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- 19-year old Specialist Kimberly Storey's plane landed at Rochester International Airport this afternoon... And quite the group welcomed her home. Roughly 30 to 40 military veterans lined the terminal to thank and welcome her back.

The crowd shouted "U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A," through the terminal as SPC Storey returned to her family."She was home for a couple weeks in October," said her mother Becky Storey-Hunder, "But that's just a taste. It's nice to have her back home."

Between travel and getting her whole unit over to Afghanistan, Storey has been deployed for nearly a year. When Tom Carey heard a soldier was coming home, you could say, he helped rally the troops. "When we get the phone call and we know there is an individual coming into town we will do everything we can to get the support of veteran's from across the surrounding area," said Carey.

Veteran's, who served in different wars, in different uniforms, came together to welcome home one of their own. "I just was expecting my mom and sisters and that's what I got and then I got this which is just awesome," said SPC Storey. So it's back to everyday life for the reserve, catching up on what she has missed out on during her tour.

"Being able to wear whatever I want, not being on anyone's time schedule," said SPC Storey, "I'm sure within the next few weeks I'll do some shopping and catch up on some fun."

SPC Storey is planning on attending college in Wisconsin.
