Lourdes High School construction is ahead of schedule

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- The warm weather is having a big impact on a local High School. The new Lourdes High School is on the fast track. In fact, contractors said they're ahead of schedule.

Construction on Lourdes High School began in mid-October. Project Supervisor Barry Reeck,  said the mild winter weather has its perks.

"It's definitely a benefit it's saving a lot of time for temp enclosing of areas and a lot of fuel expenses for LP and Natural Gas," said Reeck.

Along with saving a few dollars, the temperatures are helping workers beat the winter blues.

"Guys are pumped on a day like today. They just can't believe it. We actually had an iron worker working in his T-shirt today!" exclaimed Reeck.

More than anything, weather like this is helping keep everyone safe.

"We're setting a lot of our structural steel right now so it's much safer for the iron workers not working on beams that are icy and snow covered," stated Reeck.

From mild weather, to safer working conditions, the perks just keep coming. For workers, the best part is the guarantee of a paycheck.

"Having a good winter, bringing home 40-hour paychecks is very beneficial to the workers and their families," said Reeck.

It's also beneficial to school officials as they're hoping to get into their new building sooner rather than later. Most construction projects are delayed because of weather.

The completion date for the new Lourdes High School is set for May of 2013.
