Employee defrauds Rochester Ford

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for an Austin man who's wanted for allegedly defrauding a car dealership by diverting money into a private account .

The money was sent from a woman wanting to buy a car.

The woman was traveling from Sweden and was in Rochester seeking treatment for her daughter at Mayo Clinic.

While she was here she rented a car from 31-year-old Tracy Brandt who was an employee of Rochester Ford at the time of the crime.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman later decided to buy a new vehicle from the dealership and have it sent to her home in Sweden.

Brandt told the woman he would take care of the necessary arrangements and had her wire more than $46,000 to a fraudulent account under Rochester Ford's company name.

After withdrawing nearly $32,000 within days of the deposit, the dealership contacted police due to suspicious activity.

Lieutenant Dan Muyres with the Rochester Police Department says, "She was legitimately believing she was buying a vehicle from this company. Originally she actually had the transfer and bank information that was legitimate. He called her a couple of days later and told her that there was a change."

Tracy Brandt has had a criminal history, including five charges involving forged checks or theft.

Police are continuing the search for Brandt.

Rochester Ford has honored the woman's purchase and still sent her the vehicle.
