Light display near Hayfield, lights up the sky

NEAR HAYFIELD, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Holiday Season may soon be over, but there's still time to spread good cheer and that's what one family is doing near Hayfield. For more than 10 years the Severson's have lit up their farm yard with thousands of twinkling lights. While the display has grown in size every year, so has the number of on-lookers.

To date, more than 6,000 cars have driven through the spectacular light display since it opened for the season just 5 weeks ago. The impressive production all started when the family decorated one little bush, with lights years ago.  While the family enjoys creating the light show, it's also for a good cause, 100-percent of the donations go to the Hayfield community ambulance squad.

This year there are two separate scenes, each synchronized to music.

"It's a family tradition for some of the people that come through. Every Christmas when the family gets together they make sure that everyone comes out and they go through the display every Christmas. That kind of makes us feel good that we're a part of their Christmas tradition as well," said Theresa Severson, with Severson's Light Display.

Theresa said some of the 120,000 lights are LED, but a majority of them are still incandescent bulbs.  Either way, the family will admit, their electric bill has decreased greatly due to using LEDs.

Severson's Farm is located just West of Oslo only minutes from Hayfield. The address is 21366 740th Street. It's open every evening from 5 to 10 PM, thru December 31st.
