ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- After a being shot in the head Monday, Lake City police officer Shawn Schneider continues to fight for his life. Law enforcement and the public gathered Tuesday night to display support and hope for Officer Schneider, his family, and friends.

A candlelight vigil was held at Saint Marys Edith Graham Courtyard. The family of Officer Schneider is asking for your prayers, Shawn is still listed in critical condition at Saint Marys.

And on the cold evening, it wasn't just the words that fellow law enforcement officers said that took the chill out of the air, but also more than 100 people coming together to support Shawn and his family. Lake City's Police Department, along with a Chaplin and Rochester law enforcement officers offered their words of encouragement.

Lesley Kenyon, with RPD, organized the event and said the shooting hits close to home.

"It could happen to any one of us, any one of my co-workers, friends. As a fellow law enforcement employee he is like a brother to me and being I don't know him, I don't know the family I felt extremely helpless in a situation like this and I just wanted to do something to show the support," stated Kenyon.

Following a prayer, Shawn's family asked that everyone join together to sing "Silent Night".

Another candle light vigil will be held Wednesday evening, beginning at 7 p.m., at Patton Park in Lake City.
