Christmas anonymous

Families in need will be able to give their loved ones Christmas presents this year, thanks to the communities generous donations and a local organization. Christmas Anonymous is a charity that accepts donations from the community, to make Christmas possible for the less fortunate.

The non-profit, charitable organization has been going for over fifty years. Christmas Anonymous serves Olmsted County, allowing families to grab gifts at the beginning of December.

Linda Brech has been volunteering her time for almost ten years and says when the families are able to provide for their loved ones, it is all worth it. Brech explains, "Everyone's just so happy to have them come through and provide a piece of Christmas that they may not have been able to do on their own."

The families are pre-qualified based on income. The charity will serve over 600 families and hundreds of volunteers help make it possible.

Phyllis Jacobs has been with Christmas Anonymous for over ten years, she says, "We got a lot of stuff today...truck loads...but everything will go, maybe a few bikes won't but we'll give those to service organizations later this year."

To make an accurate count Jacobs says, "We'll get the information about how many children are in the family, and what age they are so it makes it easier to have adequate supplies."

Elementary schools around OImsted county are a big part Christmas Anonymous. Assistant principal, Brant Goetz of George Gibbs Elementary says, "We'll we sent a letter out to our families and we have about 830 students, and as you can see we took out two truck loads, so our families and students were, excited to help by giving to the community."

Goetz goes on to say that everyone benefits from charities like this, "It just brings the community together at a time of need and helps families understand how welcome they are in our community."
