Two arrested after chase with Rochester police

Updated:

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Two men were arrested after a hit-and-run that ended in a police chase through several Rochester neighborhoods.

The pursuit started after the suspects got out of a cab without paying and then backed their car into that cab.

Investigators say 18-year-old Abdi Ahmed of Rochester, and 19-year-old Zacharia Mohamed were intoxicated at the time of the incident.

After Ahmed and Mohamed exited the cab, they got into a parked car and rear-ended the cab, damaging the rear quarter panel.

The two men fled when officers spotted them.

A chase began at Hwy. 52 and Hwy. 14 and went for several miles, before Ahmed and Mohamed intestinally collided with a police car at Hwy. 14 and County Road 22.

Ahmed and Mohamed continued driving west on Highway 14, where they eventually surrendered at the County Road 3 exit and were arrested.

Officers say the car the two men took off in was reported stolen on Nov. 20.

Ahmed and Mohamed are facing charges of theft and not paying the cab fare.

They are also facing charges related to alcohol, assault, and fleeing in a motor vehicle.

No one was hurt in the incident.
