Norovirus outbreak at John Adams Middle School

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Nearly 100 students at John Adams Middle School are at home sick after a suspected outbreak of Norovirus.

Principal LaShawn Ray and the school nurse say Norovirus is fairly common this time of year, and they are proud of how the school has handled the outbreak, which has affected about 10 percent of the school's students.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the main symptoms of Norovirus are diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach pain.

Norovirus is highly contagious and is easily spread from person to person, through contaminated food or water, and by touching contaminated surfaces.

Principal Ray says phone calls and email alerts went out to parents, as well as a letter.

Proper and frequent hand washing is the best way to prevent Norovirus.
