Treats for the troops

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) --  There's no place like home for the holidays, but for our service men and woman fighting for our freedom abroad, most wont be home for the season.

The holidays are quickly approaching and what better way to celebrate than to give back to the people that have scarified so much for us.

This is from last may when Soldiers from the 134th Brigade Support Battalion, with the Minnesota National Guard were deployed over seas and this is exactly who you can help have a better holiday season.

The American Red Cross in a Partnership with Operation hometown gratitude are collecting items from DVD'S to Deodorant, and even Beef Jerky to send to our Minnesota National Guard solders who can't be home for the holidays.

All of the items will be divided up and sent as a care package to our soldiers who have to spend the holidays away from home.

"Giving our volunteers in the community a chance to say thank you to the military members is a warm fuzzy. We appreciate all the work that they do. This is just such a nice and easy way to say thank you."

Items can be dropped off at the Southeast Minnesota Red Cross, 310 14th Street SE, Rochester until November 22, 2011.  Additional collection sites are also available in surrounding communities. Please check the American Red Cross web site at <> for details about collection sites.
