Crime Stoppers comes to Rochester and Olmsted County

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Crime Stoppers of Minnesota has been in operation since 1979 and is now partnered up with Rochester Police Department and Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.

Local law enforcement joined Crime Stoppers to fight crime using the offer of anonymity and rewards. The partnership allows citizens to pass on information about crimes using phone apps, phone calls, text messages and the website.

Rochester has created their own website branched off of Crime Stoppers of Minnesota. The Website displays investigations and leads into unsolved crimes, missing persons and criminals that are most wanted.

All tippers can choose to be anonyms and if the tip leads to an arrest or charging they can qualify for a reward.

Crime Stoppers Bob Dennistoun says the partnership is what enhances the safety of the community.

"By working with law enforcement, already this year we've taken in 714 tips, so from three years ago we took in less than 100 to now we're taking in 700. That's up about 20 percent from this time last year, so the program works."
