Man dies logging

60-year-old Kent Erding died after a logging accident Thursday. Erding was the owner of Fillmore Sawmill. He and a coworker were logging about 5 miles south of Preston when the tree fell. It happened just before noon Thursday.

Fillmore County Sheriff's department says there was evidence that Erding had partially cut on at least one tree and was continuing on the method of preliminary cuts when the tree fell on him.

Sheriff Jensen said, "He made a preliminary cut on one tree and then went to another tree to cut and the wind may have helped to push that tree and again it landed on top of him. If he was cutting a tree at the time it happened he probably never knew what hit him."

Erding's co worker is the one who found him. Preston Ambulance and Preston Fire responded to the scene. Erding was pronounced dead at the scene.
