Derek Kauffman joined the NewsCenter in June of 2011 as the morning news producer.
He graduated from the University of Kansas, where he focused on news producing in the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
He has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism, with an emphasis in news and information.
Derek produced the newscasts at KUJH-TV in Lawrence, Kansas, and before that, he was gaining experience on the reporting side of the university operation.
In his younger years, Derek's family made their home in Apopka, Florida and later in Overland Park, Kansas. His parents now hail from Katy, Texas.
In his free time, he watches movies, plays video games and enjoys playing basketball.
During basketball season he's not afraid to tell you he's pretty loyal to the Kansas Jayhawks.
