Season's first case of influenza confirmed in olmsted county

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC)-- Flu season is off to somewhat of an early start this year. Minnesota officials have confirmed this season's first case of Influenza.

The Minnesota Department of Health's Public Health Laboratory confirmed the 26 year old female from Olmsted County contracted type A strain of the virus. Type A is covered by this year's flu vaccine. The woman had not been vaccinated.

Other reports of the influenza have been circling around the state, but this case marks the official start of flu season in Minnesota. Historically the first flu case has been confirmed in late November or early December.

The case serves as a reminder for people to get vaccinated. Flu season occurs from October through April, with the peak generally in February.
