Ash borer meeting in La Crescent

La Crescent, Minn. (KTTC) --  Since it's detection in Great River Bluffs State Park, the emerald ash borer has been topic of discussion in the southeast region of Minnesota.

In LaCrescent Wednesday evening, an informational meeting was held at the city hall for those who wanted to learn more about the new infestation and how it's affecting or will affect them.

Winona County has placed a quarantine on the transportation of Ash wood out of the county in hopes of keeping the infestation from spreading and turning into a situation some states know all too well.

Minnesota Department of Agriculture's Mark Abrahamson says "The worst has been Michigan, Indiana and Ohio where this started and went unknown for ten to twelve years before it was discovered.  By that time they were in the middle of a big outbreak.  Pretty much all they had left to do was cut down all of the dead trees."

The superintendent for MnDOT of Rochester took part tonight's gathering, hoping to learn more about how his crew will have to prepare when it comes time for them to begin cutting down Ash trees.
