Mother's ashes stolen from car

WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) -- "We just assumed they probably didn't know what they were taking." said Emily Boulay, who's mothers ashes were stolen.

It was in a parking lot just a couple of hundred feet from where Emily lives in Winona, where the remains of her mother were taken out of a car early on Saturday morning.

"That's the box that it was in and they opened the tape, took the urn, and left the peanuts."  said Emily

Emily's family in the Twin Cities, was trying to find a permanent spot for the urn and Emily says she kept it in her car so her roommates would not be disturbed by it.

"I don't know, maybe I was naive to think that nobody would have taken it."

Emily's mother Kimberly passed away almost two years ago.

"She stayed at home, so she tried her best to spend a lot of time with us"

Now Emily and her family are hoping authorities will track down the thief or thieves.

"We're very concerned for the family obviously, its very distressful for them, and we want to help them any way that we can so they can get the remains of their loved one back," said Winona Police Chief Paul Bostrick

Emily adds " It really means a lot to my family. It's something that, I don't know, its just so important I think to have back, Yeah I guess just that we want it back."
