Boy in "critical condition" after being run over by farm tractor

WHITEHALL, Wisc. (KTTC) -- An eight-year-old boy was badly injured Monday evening in a farm accident five miles northwest of Whitehall when he fell off of a moving tractor and was run over.

A spokeswoman for Mayo Clinic in Rochester says Cole Heiden was still in "critical condition" Wednesday evening at St. Marys Hospital.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department says Cole was riding on the fender of a tractor being driven by his father Allen at about 8:25 p.m. Monday when the fender broke and the boy fell in front of the tractor wheel.  Deputy Tim Wilson reported that Cole may also have been run over by the front wheel of a silage feeding wagon being pulled by the tractor.

The youngster was transported by Mayo One helicopter to Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire and later transferred to St. Marys.
