Emily Shick: 10 Who Make A Difference

BYRON, Minn. (KTTC-DT) --  Solar energy, it's the next big thing, and a student from Byron is helping to make the world a better and greener place.  Emily Shick is one of our ten people who make a difference.

Shick recently graduated from Byron high school and during her time there she was involved with many clubs such as students against drunk driving, student council, class treasurer and also was a peer tutor.  If that wasn't enough, she also created her own.  She founded the Go Green Club in her sophomore year of high school.  Before Emily's actions, Byron Schools did not recycle.  To raise the green bar even higher, she secured a grant to purchase and install solar panels at her school.  She said all of this on her plate can be hard, but she loves to do it.

"It really is hard sometimes to fit in enough things, but really I just try to do like one night, I have a free night, so what can I do. There's a lot of opportunities when you can just go for a couple of hours and those couple of hours can mean a lot,"  Emily Shick says.

Emily will be receiving her award Wednesday at 1 p.m. on the main stage down at Rochesterfest.
