SAN DIEGO (AP) - Rene Rivera tied the game with a home run in the ninth inning and won it with an RBI single in the 10th inning as the San Diego Padres beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 last night. Rivera opened the ninth inning with his ninth homer to tie the score 2-2. Rivera singled to center to drive in Grandal from second in the 10th. Dale Thayer pitched the 10th for the victory.
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (AP) - Authorities say a tour bus bringing the Kansas City Chiefs to their Wisconsin hotel before tonight's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers was involved in an accident. Two adults and three children were in the vehicle that struck the bus. One of the children had a minor cut to the head and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. No one on the Chiefs' bus was hurt.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Four quarterbacks could be in play in the season opener Saturday night between two power conference programs. No. 14 Wisconsin meets No. 13 LSU in Houston in a prime-time matchup. The Badgers appear to have settled on dual-threat junior Tanner McEvoy as the starter. But Gary Andersen has said both McEvoy and Joel Stave will be ready no matter what. Tigers coach Les Miles says he'll use both sophomore Anthony Jennings and freshman Brandon Harris.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Nori Aoki drove in the go-ahead run during a six-run eighth inning last night to send the Kansas City Royals to a 6-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Billy Butler and Salvador Perez each drove in a pair of runs during the surge. Wade Davis pitched a perfect eighth to earn his second straight win.
