BALTIMORE (AP) - Chris Davis hit his fourth career grand slam and the Baltimore Orioles got a dominating pitching performance from Miguel Gonzalez in a 9-1 victory over the skidding Minnesota Twins on Friday night. It was the fifth loss in six games for the Twins. Their lone bright spot was a home run by Trevor Plouffe, the 10,000th in franchise history. The Twins contributed 7,214 of those homers after the Washington Senators hit 2,786 from 1901-1960.

PHOENIX (AP) - The Minnesota Lynx will face the Phoenix Mercury in what could be considered a dream matchup in the WNBA's Western Conference finals. The series will feature the WNBA's top two teams. It also will be the third meeting in four years in the West finals between these two budding rivals.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Milwaukee right-hander Matt Garza pitched a simulated game in what likely was his final test before returning from the disabled list to the Brewers' rotation next week. As long as Garza comes through the outing without further problems when he reports to AT&T Park on Saturday, he could start as soon as Thursday at home against St. Louis.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - The rookies who have made two of the strongest impressions this preseason for the Green Bay Packers weren't at the top of the team's draft board. Productive performances by seventh-round pick Jeff Janis and undrafted free agent Jayrone Elliott in Thursday night's 34-14 preseason win over Kansas City may have cemented their roster spots. Teams must trim rosters to 53 players by Saturday.
