Unofficial start to Summer: Thursdays on 1st & 3rd

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) - The streets of downtown Rochester were packed today thanks to a summertime favorite that's back for business. Thursdays on 1st and 3rd opened for another season, making it the unofficial kick-off of summer

After being cooped up all winter, a breath of fresh air has brought summer to downtown Rochester. No matter what your preference in music, with two stages, there is always something for everyone to enjoy.

"The reggae, the country, the alternative, all of that, everything that is down here," said event patron, Kahlyn Sweet.

This is the 10th year community members have gathered together. Heidi Mestad, an event organizer said it's all about feeling connected to the bigger picture.

"Where you can run into people, there's no front porches anymore, so you have to have events to really congregate with your local community," said Mestad.

Every week nearly 15,000 - 17,000 people bombard the downtown.

"I got done with work, so it looked like a cool thing to go to. I didn't go a lot last year so I wanted to go more this year," said Mayo worker, Megan Devine.

While some simply enjoy the free entertainment, others, like Megan, come to shop.

'''The clothing like stands like this one, and the food too," exclaimed Devine.

Thursdays on First and Third runs from 11am to 8:30pm every Thursday, until September 1st.
