37th Street construction ahead of schedule

ROCHESTER, Minn (KTTC)-- Construction crews working on the 37th Street road repair project say they are nearly five weeks ahead of schedule, which is welcomed news to commuters but businesses along the road are still hurting.

"It depends on the time of the day you hit it if you come at this time right now there's as you can see a big back-up," said Patti Nordquist who was sitting in traffic on Tuesday afternoon.

Nearly all of the stoplights along the heavily traveled road have been disabled temporarily and replaced with four-way stop signs, bringing traffic to standstill during rush hour.

"It's killing my business," says Cindy Riley whose consignment business has lost costumers because the entrances to her parking lot are closed off due to the construction.

"When you think of 37th street construction you just don't want to have any part of it," Riley adds.

Crews still have to lay down cement on the entire north side of 37th street but if they stay ahead of schedule the project could be completed in early July instead of early August.
