Lake City man drowns while trying to rescue dog

Updated:

LAKE CITY, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office reports a Lake City man died Saturday, after running into Lake Pepin to try to save his dog.

Fifty year-old Brian Harwick ran into the water at 1400 Central Point, after his dog received an electrical shock and began to sink in the water.

The shock came from a boat lift with a track system that runs from underneath the water to the shore.

The Sheriff's Office says when Harwick ran into the water, he was shocked by an electrical current from the boat lift and fell unconscious in the water.

Friends and family pulled him to shore and started CPR. Harwick was taken to Lake City Medical Center where he died. An investigation is on-going.
