Public meetings on CAPX 2020

Plainview, Minn. (KTTC)--

The CAPX 2020 project is one step further in becoming a reality. The project proposes new transmission lines, one of which would run through Rochester from Hampton and into LaCrosse.

We now have a first draft look at the kind of environmental impact this transmission line might have on the area. State officials now want the community's help in anything they may have missed.

The Environmental Impact Statement is a key step in the project's approval. Officials with the state department of Commerce and energy security office have put together the draft EIS for three line possibilities. They will now spend the next couple of days sharing that information with landowners in affected areas, and fielding suggestions of other questions that need to be addressed in the statement.

"There are a whole host of concerns that we find that are typically associated with the construction and operation of these types of lines. We cover those potential impacts in the environmental impact statement and ways to mitigate or avoid certain impacts," says Matt Langan with the Office of Energy Security.

Tuesday is the first of three days of public meetings, two meetings each day in a different town. State officials will be in Pine Island Wednesday at the American Legion, and they will be in Cannon Falls on Thursday in the High School Auditorium

If you cannot make any of the meetings, but would still like to comment on the statement or add suggestions, we have a link on our website where you can do that. Just go to
