Firefighters and police officers duke it out in football

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Instead of taking to the streets Sunday afternoon, some local firefighters and police officers gathered for the 7th annual City Bowl, Battle of the Badges.

The event brings together those that serve our community, for a playful rivalry. Both departments form football teams and battle to see who will take home the City Bowl title and trophy. It's not just all fun and games though, proceeds from both departments sponsor youth athletics and local charities. Event Organizer, Jamie Lea Wellik, said the police department usually wins.

"We've had one fire department victory in the last six years, so hopefully this year they can pull it off, but we have a pretty tough PD team, so it's a lot of fun," said Wellik.

As for who won the big game, the Rochester Fire Department has bragging rights for the next year. They did take home the trophy, with a final score of 32 points for the fire department and just 12 for the police department.
