5 Rochester Firefighters promoted

ROCHESTER, MN (KTTC-DT) -- The city of Rochester is growing by leaps and bounds and we can expect to see the city's fire department grow because of it.

Wednesday night, five members of the Rochester Fire Department received promotions.  Two are now motor operators and three others are now captains.

Normally, promotions happen once someone retires, but as more resources are added to the city the need for a larger staff goes up.  Just in the last year, the department's call volume went up by about 6%.  The promotions will help lead to an improved response time when an emergency occurs.

"Better coverage, better service. We have an extra engine now that will be running out of Station One. A lot of our calls require maybe one engine so this is a better way to serve the community of Rochester," says Captain Craig Connelly.

Also, when there's a structure fire the Rochester Fire Department will now have more resources available to better improve service to citizens.

Motor Operator Craig Connelly has been promoted to Captain.

Firefighter Brian Petersen has been promoted to Captain.

Motor Operator Dave Beagle has been promoted to Captain.

Firefighter Jason Moritz has been promoted to Motor Operator.

Firefighter Joe Minnis has been promoted to Motor Operator.
