Community remembers Joe Lewison

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- It was an emotional day for family and friends of Joe Lewison.

They gathered Wednesday to honor the Pacelli High School senior killed Tuesday, when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a train south of Austin.

18-year-old Joe Lewison's life ended too soon. Now friends and family are left coping with the loss.

"He was a nice kid. That's why we all loved him," said Mary Holtorf, principal at Pacelli High School.

Father Fogel said there's no miracle fix to heal a broken heart.

"If we find the magic word or say something about God or something about the scripture, or quote something that this will take away the pain and the loss, but there's a whole lot more to it than that," Fogel said.

As a community tries to mend, Fogel asked questions many had on their mind: What if the train would have been late? What if Joe would have stayed home on his day off from school?

The answers will never be found, but Joe's memory will live on.

"He was a kind hearted soul. He was a person you could look up to," Holtorf said.
