Alliant Energy rate hike hearings to begin

ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KTTC) -- Hearings are set to begin next week in the Interstate Power and Lights', better known as Alliant Energy, rate hike case.

Alliant Energy is proposing a 22 percent increase, which would cost customers an extra $16 per month to create new infrastructure to better serve customers.

It's the first time in five years the electrical company is raising rates.

At public input meetings last month customers were strongly opposed to the increase.

The State's Office of Energy Security is proposing the rate increase be cut in half.

Both parties will provide evidence to the Public Utilities Commission either in favor of or against the proposed hike.

A final decision will be made in July.
