New strip mall coming to Austin

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- Downtown Austin will soon have a new strip mall, located in the old drugstore building, just a block off Main Street.

A city official says it's part of a community wide initiative called "The Main Street Project," which started in 2005, in hopes of restoring the downtown.

The old drugstore on the corner of 1st Street and 4th Avenue northwest has been sitting vacant the past six months.

Recently the owner of Top Ten Nails, Sam Nguyen, purchased the space.

He's renovating the building, turning it into a strip mall with room for three businesses.

Austin's Community Development Director says the building will house the nail salon and the Vietnamese Top Noodle restaurant.

"A Vietnamese restaurant that will be coming to town. From what I understand there's 3 other restaurants, a couple of them down in Orlando area and one up in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area," said Craig Hoium.

Nguyen says the restaurant is set to open in mid-April.

Top 10 Nails will move to its new location this summer.

So far it's unclear, who the third tenant will be.
