Mother of child porn victims: "My trust is broken"

MANTORVILLE, Minn (KTTC)-- The mother of two young children who became the victims of an extensive child porn collection says the man charged with the crime is a close family friend.

"We let him in our home and trusted him around our kids and look what we're going through now," says the Mantorville woman.

Michael Sherman is facing sexual misconduct charges after he allegedly took more than 70 inappropriate photos of that woman's two kids, she agreed to be interviewed by the NewsCenter about the incident on the condition her identity not be released.

"When we walked into that courtroom I never would have expected it to be as graphic or disturbing as what I saw," says the woman about seeing her children's pornographic photos displayed at Sherman's first court appearance.

According to the criminal complaint, Sherman used his cell phone to take images and video of the 4-year-old and 22-month-old.

"We had no idea that he was doing what he was doing to our kids," says the mother.

The crimes reportedly happened in Hayfield and Mantorville between September, 2010 and January, 2011.

"My first impression of it is that it's someone who's been doing it for quite a length of time," says Dodge County Sheriff Jim Jensen.

Sherman is charged with two counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of use of minors in sexual performance.

"We had no idea that he was doing what he was doing to our kids," she adds.

His next court appearance is Feb. 23.
