First Rochester council meeting of 2011

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- 2011 for the city is beginning with the approval to fund several projects.

Among them are improvements to the city's airport.

Several parts of town will be seeing new paths and sidewalks including this area across from Ben Franklin Elementary.

Also the Boys and Girls club will be getting a face life with the approval of the vacation of 10th avenue southeast.

The first hearing of the year was a discussion on Rochester's Downtown Master Plan project that is still being tweaked.

Jon Eckhoff of the Rochester Downtown Alliance says, "A couple of our board members expressed concern that there's not enough observation of historical preservation and I believe we can do both and so we're always going to be watching. Also, another member is concerned there is very little in there in regards to special needs."

Also at Monday's meeting four members were sworn into the council, just one of them a first time member.
