New Years Eve and Alcohol

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- New Years Eve is officially here and no matter who you are, you probably know of someone who will ring in the new year with an alcoholic beverage.

"It's the biggest day of the year, it beats out July 4th, Christmas or anything like that," said HyVee Wine and Spirits Manager, Ben Dudley.

Customers are browsing the aisles looking for their beverage of choice; wine, beer, hard liquor or the most sought after, a bottle of bubbly champagne.

"It's kind of a national drinking holiday really, it's time to celebrate. Get out the old year and start another one and everyone can start working out next week to work it off," said Dudley.

So what are people doing this new years eve?

"It's all kid and adult orientated. We're going to have sledding, games, we are going to have a great time, we've ordered food that is going to be catered, so we're very excited," said Katie Betts.

"We're going to pre-game it at my place then we're headed out to Dooley's. Maybe a little Kathy's too, Big Brads, we'll see,  going out downtown," said Mike Crow and Katie Glenny.

If you're headed out this evening, Rochester police are reminding you to stay safe.

"Make sure you call for rides, it's not worth the trouble to get into, if you end up getting a DUI, just be safe, don't drink and drive," said Rochester Patrol officer, James Marsolek.

Cheers as you ring in the new year.
