MINNEAPOLIS (KTTC-DT/AP) -- Jay Barribal scored the game-winning goal in the second period as Minnesota held on to beat second-ranked Minnesota-Duluth 3-2 on Friday.
Barribal's goal at 13:36 of the second period gave the Golden Gophers (9-7-1, 6-6-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) a two-goal cushion. They would need it when Justin Faulk scored with five minutes left in the third period to make it a one-goal game.
Minnesota goalie Kent Patterson made a diving save in the closing seconds to hand the Bulldogs (13-3-2, 9-3-1) their second loss in three games. Patterson made 37 saves, including 16 in the third period.
Nick Larson and Nico Sacchetti also scored for the Gophers.
Jack Connolly notched a goal for the Bulldogs.
Kenny Reiter made 29 saves for UMD.
