Thousands wait in line in bitter cold for Black Friday bargains

ROCHESTER (KTTC) -- Thousands of bargain hunters waited in line in the bitter cold overnight for their favorite Rochester stores to open on "Black Friday."

One couple camped out at 1 a.m. to be the first inside Mills Fleet Farm when it opened five hours later, more came at 3:30.  By 5 a.m. the line had grown to a hundred hardy souls.  By the time the magic hour of 6 a.m. came, more than a thousand people were shivering in 13 degree cold for the hot bargains inside.  And as many took comfort in layers or a blanket, there was good reason--the wind chill made it feel like zero degrees out there.

For many, it was a celebration of the beginning of the holiday shopping season, the traditional day-after-Thanksgiving burst of enthusiasm fueled by retailers' special hours, special deals and free stuff.
