Thankless giving from the heart

LIME SPRINGS, Iowa (KTTC)-- Thankless giving is the underlying theme of one Iowa family's holiday.

The Johnsons will openly tell you tis better to give than to receive, and that's just what they're doing. For the past 15 years they've welcomed an entire community to join their feast of Thanksgiving.

"We were pushing ourselves away from our Thanksgiving meal as a family and were putting away more leftovers as a family than we had eaten as a family," said Kathy Lichty, daughter of Earl Johnson.

It was at that moment the family decided to share their holiday meal.

"There's a lot of people that can't get to their family. Maybe it's weather or whatever circumstances might be, or maybe they're alone. We just decided that since the Lord had blessed us with so much, we needed to share with some people that maybe didn't have that," said Lichty.

"We're from the cities and our families are in the cities. We don't get a chance when it's icy to go those places. So, it's really nice to be with this family," said Eugene Genin.

This is the first Thanksgiving without the families beloved father, Earl Johnson. Although the family said it isn't the same they still have a lot to be thankful for.

"We really miss having our dad here, but we had him for many years. He taught us how to love and how to give. It's just how he was and it's what we need to continue to do," said Lichty.
