Icy roads cause hundreds of crashes in metro area

Minneapolis(FOX 47) --For those of you who were up in the metro area this weekend slippery driving conditions doesn't even begin to describe what the roads were like.  Sirens, stop and go traffic, and black ice made for very scary driving conditions. This was all due to freezing rain late last night in central and some parts of southern Minnesota.  The freezing rain caused a thick layer of ice to cover roads causing of hundreds of car accidents in the Twin Cities and surrounding area.  State police responded to more than four hundred crashes from midnight to five a-am in the Minneapolis area. Seventy-five of those were injury crashes.  Cars and even plows could be seen in ditches.  Two accidents were deadly one in Meeker County the other in Stearns County.
