Rochester Public School board appoints new director

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Rochester Public School (RPS) district voted to appoint Daniel O'Neil to director seat #7 with the RPS board on Tuesday afternoon.

Back in September RPS Board Member Cris Fischer resigned, leaving an open seat on the board.

"I think new starts are always good," said Breanna Bly, RPS director seat #1.

Almost all new people will be on the RPS board in January but O'Neil will be sworn on November 23 at the school board's regular meeting.

13 candidates applied for the position. Out of those 13, four were chosen for individual interviews with the school board.

O'Neil received four out of six votes from the board.

"I was actually very happy. I come from a family of educators," O'Neil said.

O'Neil comes from a background of management and has a history in finance, things the board took into consideration as they face making $5 million in budget cuts.
