Celebrating 80 years of lutefisk

BYRON, Minn. (KTTC) -- It has been 80 years of lutefisk and lefse for East Saint Olaf Lutheran Church.

The church had its annual lutefisk supper tonight in Byron.

Around 1,500 people stopped by for a Norwegian home cooked meal.

Pastor Darby Lawrence recommends the meatballs and gravy and believes there's a reason people keep coming back every year.

"When you grow up eating lutefisk around Thanksgiving and Christmas it tastes like home and so they come out here because it's all that's right and good," Lawrence said.

Volunteers started cooking around nine this morning and made more than 1,200 rounds of lefse.
