Annie Young (Green)

Annie is a proven leader and steward with a vision of how to come to a more complete understanding of where our tax dollars go and how to ensure our spending moves us towards improvements in the 3 E's of sustainability: Environment, Economics, and Equity.

Annie has lifelong dedication to building community and finding solutions to complex problems in rural and urban settings.

Annie is serving her sixth term on the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.  In her time on the MPRB, she has advanced many sustainability initiatives.  Annie has accomplished

  • Reduction in use of chemicals
  • Improvements in water quality
  • Riverfront development
  • Increased tree planting

Annie has also worked for sustainability professionally and through service in other community organizations.

In addition to her green contributions to the inner city, Annie has extensive experience in Greater Minnesota.

  • Helped to start food co-ops and buying clubs all around the state and Upper Midwest in the 1970s
  • Co-authored and produced statewide Food Access Directory
  • Appointed by Governor Rudy Perpich to Welfare Blue Ribbon Commission
  • Appointed by Governor Arnie Carlson to Roundtable on Sustainable Development
  • Has lived near and in Winona as well as Minneapolis
  • Has visited many rural communities in support of organic growing practices on Minnesota farms
  • Has been a speaker on many of the state's college campuses on Environmental and Economic Justice issues
