Steven Wilson (Independence)


Steven and Jeanne have been married for 25 years and together they have two adult children, Ben and Brittany. They currently reside in Rochester, MN. Ben attends Northwestern College in St. Paul, MN and Brittany attends the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. This photo was taken at Century High School in 2009.

Childhood and Heritage
Steven grew up in southern Minnesota on a farm in Houston County. He graduated from Houston High School. Steven's great grandfather, Abraham Wilson, purchased 139 acres in Mound Prairie township of Houston County in 1858. 

Steven graduated from the University of Wisconsin with majors in Agriculture and Journalism.

Land O'Lakes Inc.
Steven spent over 15 years with Land O' Lakes Inc. Twelve of those years he was focused on business development with clients mostly in southern Minnesota. The work revolved around increasing profitability, writing business plans and developing over 1,000 individual budgets for farmers in the dairy industry. The work led to the creation of dozens of new jobs.

Bridge Builders For Kids
Steven and his wife Jeanne are the founders of Bridge Builders for Kids. The Minnesota non-profit supports children who have a mother or father in prison. The main office is in downtown St. Paul. The non-profit serves all of the Twin Cites as well as the Rochester area.

United States Federal Bureau of Prisons
Steven volunteered with the federal prison system from 1991 to 1993.

United States Agency for International Development
In conjunction with Land Land O'Lakes International, Steven worked in the former soviet bloc countries of Hungary and the Czech Republic shortly after the Iron Curtain fell. He also completed a business development project in Honduras. 

United States Health and Human Services
Steven completed a three-year project with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that brought funding into Minnesota to improve early crime prevention in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area.

U.S. State Department
Steven worked as a U.S. diplomat for a one-year tour in Iraq and served most of the time embedded in the US Army. As a Senior Business Development Specialist, his work in Iraq revolved around creating jobs.

United States Army
As a civilian, Steven was the economic team leader for the PRT, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division of the United States Army at FOB Kalsu, Iraq. Steven also facilitated the first Jobs and Credit Round Table at Camp Victory with the 34th Infantry Division of the Minnesota National Guard. Steven personally brought together Iraqi businesses, bankers, and U.S. Department of State personnel to strategize with the 34th Infantry Division.  

National Debt
Since returning from Iraq in April of 2009, Steven has volunteered his time to creating public awareness of the national debt in America.

Steven was an endorsed Republican Candidate for the MN Senate in 2006.

Steven and his family attend Rochester Assembly of God. Steven also attends Tuesday morning Bible studies with Rochester business owners.

Steven has been involved in agriculture every year of his life. His family recently moved from a small farm near Lake City, MN where Steven and Jeanne raised their two children.
