MN Special Session on flood aid postponed

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The absence of a federal disaster declaration for southern Minnesota flooding has led Gov. Tim Pawlenty to postpone a special session to consider accompanying state relief.

Pawlenty's office said Friday he was canceling plans to call a Monday special session of the Legislature.

Federal officials are still reviewing Minnesota's request for a federal disaster declaration. The action will determine if the state can count on federal money for part of the aid response to September flooding caused by heavy rains.

A preliminary estimate puts the damage at $64.1 million.
